What and why

This guide shows you how to customize AI-generated call summaries in Demodesk and use the skill library to apply the right summary format to every meeting. Default summaries work, but custom formats matched to your meeting type (discovery, demo, closing call) save reps another 10–15 minutes per call and produce CRM notes your team actually reads.

Who this is for

AEs, SDRs, sales managers, and RevOps teams who want call summaries tailored to their sales methodology (MEDDIC, BANT, Challenger, or custom) and meeting type.

Prerequisites

  • An active Demodesk seat with AI Assistant enabled
  • At least one recorded call in your Meeting Hub
  • Admin access if you want to create or edit skills for the whole team
  • Your sales methodology or summary structure decided before you start

Steps

  1. Open the skill library — Navigate to the Agents tab in the top nav, then select the Skills sub-tab. This is your skill library: every reusable AI prompt and summary format your team can apply to calls.
  2. Browse the default summary skills— Demodesk ships with skills for common meeting types: discovery summary, demo recap, closing call notes, customer success check-in, and more. Click any skill to see the prompt structure, the fields it extracts, and example output before you apply it.
  3. Apply a skill to a call transcript — Open any recorded call from Meetings or Meeting Hub. In the call view, select the skill you want to run from the summary or AI chat area. The AI Assistant generates the summary using that skill's structure, pulling from the full transcript.
  4. Use timestamps to jump back to video— Every fact in the generated summary links back to the moment it was said. Click any timestamp to jump to that point in the recording. You, your manager, or your AE colleague can verify any claim in seconds.
  5. Create a custom summary format — In the Skillstab, create a new skill. Give it a name (e.g. “MEDDIC discovery summary”), describe what the skill should do in plain language, and define the structure you want: sections, fields, tone. Demodesk's AI sets up the prompt for you. No code required.
  6. Test your custom skill on a real call— Before rolling it out to the team, apply your new skill to 2–3 past calls. Check the output. Refine the description if sections are missing or the tone is off. Iterate until the format reliably matches what you want in your CRM.
  7. Set a default skill per meeting type— Once your custom skills are reliable, configure which skill runs automatically based on meeting type. Discovery calls auto-summarize as discoveries, demos as demos, no manual selection needed. That's where the 10–15 minutes per call comes back.
  8. Share skills with your team — In the Skills tab, mark your custom skills as available to the whole workspace. Every rep gets the same summary structure for the same meeting type: consistent CRM data, easier coaching.

Tips

  • Start with one custom skill, not five. Pick your most common meeting type (usually discovery) and get that one right before building more.
  • Match your methodology in the prompt. If your team uses MEDDIC, list Metrics, Economic Buyer, Decision Criteria, Decision Process, Identify Pain, Champion as explicit sections. The AI extracts each one.
  • Keep summaries scannable. Bulleted next steps and named stakeholders are easier to use in a CRM than dense paragraphs. Tell the AI to prefer bullets.
  • Use timestamps in coaching. When a manager reviews a call, the timestamped summary lets them jump straight to the objection or the pricing conversation without scrubbing through 45 minutes of audio.
  • Add custom vocabulary. If your product names or competitors come out garbled in transcripts, add them to the custom vocabulary in your workspace's AI settings (up to 120 characters). Summaries get noticeably more accurate.
